Review: Young Queen

Young Queen Young Queen by Tori Smith
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

Synopis:

A kingdom in ruin. A witch destined to rule. Four guardians sworn to protect her.

Arden's had better times. She's at the center of an age-old prophecy that states she's destined to do things.

Big things like save everyone.

Even before that, her mother bestowed a gift upon her that further complicates things. She's got this bond, this link shared with four guardians chosen to protect her since childhood. Yeah, the beginning was rocky. She may have run from them once or twice and possibly... singed one of their eyebrows off, but that was in her youth. She was fiery back then, wild and free. The warlocks were revered as the best from their regions of the world and they've been central to Arden's life since she was thirteen.

But the thing about forming a bond with four boys who become ridiculously good-looking warlocks is once the tie becomes solid, it doesn't break easily. The men may have been chosen to protect Arden, make her stronger, but something happened along the way. Long after those eyebrows grew back, something... intense, causing their magical bond to deepen. Wesley, Derek, Lucas, and Elia want the crown.

They want--Arden, and though, she may share similar feelings things are more complicated beyond belief for all of them.

Arden is no longer that young girl running from her assigned protection. She's a ruler now, and must rule graciously. Her world is on the verge of upheaval, and she's the only one who can stop it.

Her ancestors say she's supposed to bring peace to her kind, witches, and the mortal elders of her world foresee the same. Unfortunately, that's where the similarities end. Most humans loathe those of magical blood, Arden and her people, and would sooner kill her than submit under her rule.

With the power to unite both races, the question is not whether Arden is capable of fulfilling her destiny. It's a matter of if she has the strength to.

Because doing so, may or may not include leaving the four men she's grown to love behind.

Written in two parts, YOUNG QUEEN is a prequel novella to THE QUEEN'S MARK, a full-length novel anticipated to release spring 2018. THE QUEEN'S MARK is book one in the "Royal Guardians Saga," a reverse harem series with the sexy bits being a slow burn throughout the series progression. Expect hookups once they happen and expect them often. This heroine doesn't have to choose between her guardians and she doesn't. 18+ for sexual situations and some magical violence.

My Thoughts:

I enjoyed this book but I have an issue with how short it is. The author doesn't take time to flesh out the characters. You barely get to know them at all and the book is done. There is a good idea there but it really needed to be longer and more world building. I barely know what the world is like and then the author throws in time travel. Where did that come from? It could have been a 4 or 5 star book if the author had taken the time to make it a full sized book. It feels like the intro to a book and then it stops with no real end goal in mind.
