I was perfectly content with my life. My career was booming. I traveled. I did as much charity work as I possibly could for the homeless, and I was perfectly happy with the choices I'd made.

At least...I was--until my sister, Dani, came up missing. As an international correspondent, she traveled to war-torn countries, and she'd stepped a little too far over the line. With my sibling kidnapped and running out of time, I had no option except to approach Marcus Colter for help.

Seeing Marcus again after having him break my heart over a decade ago wasn't easy, but to my relief, the old feelings I thought I might still harbor for him were completely gone. He was like a stranger to me. After meeting with him, my only emotion was gratitude that he was going to try to rescue my sister.

Before I could relax about feeling nothing for Marcus, I met Blake Colter, and realized every emotion I thought I'd have for Marcus was suddenly present for the gorgeous US senator.

It was ridiculous. I hadn't seen Blake since we were kids.

How could I have given myself to Marcus so many years ago, yet have these feelings for his twin brother, Blake?

The more time I spent with Blake, waiting for my sister to be rescued, the more confused I became about my attraction to him.

Then, my entire world came crashing down when I found out that everything I thought was true for over a decade wasn't the truth at all.

What happens when a woman finds out that a man she'd both loved and hated for over a decade never really existed at all?

Brie picked the wrong guy—gave him the wrong finger.

When her fiance walks out three weeks before their wedding, she slowly picks up the pieces with the help of her friends. A serial monogamist, she's not quite ready to start dating again. There are some things she misses about having a boyfriend, though. Her friends convince her to try something more casual. Random hookups have never been her thing. When a guy she has flirted with for a while offers his services to solve her dilemma, she can't help but be intrigued. Now she's trying to keep things casual, but when she's wrapped in his arms, it's hard to remember she's not supposed to be falling for him.

Max has had a few hookups since he split with his last girlfriend. Lately, though, he feels like something is missing. He has crushed on the girl he affectionately calls Cheese for years, but the timing was never right. When he finds out they're finally single at the same time, he is poised to make his move. Unfortunately, she's only looking for something physical. Of course, Max is happy to oblige, but the more time they spend together, the more certain he becomes that she's the perfect girl for him.

He pulls out all the stops, and just when he's about to make his move from the friends-with-benefits zone to serious dating, Brie completely ghosts on him. Now he has to figure out if she has really walked away, or if something more serious is keeping him from the girl of his dreams.

Funny, sexy, and satisfying, The Dating Alternative is a standalone new adult/contemporary romance.

Chapter 1 Excerpt – Sabrina

As I lay on the bed, wearing my ex-fiancé’s t-shirt and remembering the night he left me six months ago, I realize that tears are slipping silently down my cheeks.

I’ve done reasonably well, too. The first week, I was catatonic. The first month, I was practically a zombie. In those days, even showering on my day off had been a challenge. Within a couple of months, though, I was doing better. By the ninety-day mark, I could be mistaken for someone who hadn’t been virtually left at the altar.

Now, lying on the bed six months after Grant had thrown away our life together, I was almost indiscernible from a normal girl. Looking at me most days, you would never know that my life had been ripped apart by an exotic Olympian named Isabel and my former fiancé, Grant.

I sit up, realizing how far I’d come since that night. I put the back of my hand up to one cheek, then the other. No more. That asshole doesn’t get another single tear from me. Control-G-Delete.

Review: Shifter's University

Shifter's University Shifter's University by K.R. Thompson
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Synopsis:

Dragons, magic, and more...

Welcome to Shifter’s University!

Claire Pratten has a secret—one that she’s never shared with a soul. Whenever she is frightened, her “other” self comes out. Normally she has no problem hiding what she is, but lately life at her foster home has gotten harder and keeping her secret is getting tougher.

Logan Fairmont is a dragon shifter and more than accustomed to looking out for himself—and others. In fact, he is one of the few Imperium University students tasked with spending weekends in the city, searching for young shapeshifters on the edge of revealing their magic to the human race. When he finds Claire, Logan knows she will need the help of the University and its teachers to blend into society.

He thinks he knows what she is.

But magic is never quite so simple.

My Thoughts:

The idea of a shifter academy is interesting. I love reading about different types of shifters. The Yokai us a new type that I haven't read about so I enjoyed learning about them. I do wish it was longer and allowed you to get to know the characters more. Overall, an ok start but I am hoping that book 2 will be longer.

Review: A Taste of Your Own Magic

A Taste of Your Own Magic A Taste of Your Own Magic by Katie Salidas
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Synopsis:

Sage Cynwrig has finally accepted her destiny and joined ASSET. With the sharp-tongued, machete wielding Grey Maddox as her partner, she’s ready to put her magical immunity to the test.
As the saying goes, be careful what you wish for.

Just when Sage thinks she’s getting the hang of this whole agent thing, smooth-talking Djinn named Luke moves in, right next door to her apartment. As if she needed anymore magical men making her life a living hell. His arrival coincides with a number of strange disappearances in the supernatural community.

It’s all hands on deck at ASSET as rumors from the underground suggest that the missing creatures are part of a magical recipe. Someone’s attempting to recreate the lost Amulet of Emmuri: an artifact of legend capable of bestowing the power of the gods on whomever wears it.

With a little help from her street-wise vampire informant, Zack, Sage is able to pinpoint the malevolent force orchestrating this devious scheme. But just as she closes in, her human roommate Matt is pulled into the fray, and everything gets personal.

Stop the Amulet from being completed, or save her best friend? With the fate of the world hanging in the balance, either choice will force Sage to break the very magical laws she's supposed to uphold

My Thoughts:

Once again, I was pulled immediately into this story. It picked up pretty much where book let off. I love the characters and their witty banter. Especially Sage and Grey. They are always bickering and I really enjoy some of the fun comments they make. Devon is also one of my favorites. I am not sure about Zack. One moment he seems ok and the next he seems sleazy. I really felt mad for Matt & Luke, though. They got the short end of the stick this time. I am curious as to the aftermath of the things that happened in this book.

Overall, I loved the story and can't wait to continue on.

Book 1 of 4

Excerpt:
The door swung open, making the decision for me. Tristan stood at the doorway, completely naked. Head to toe, nothing covered, naked.

"What are you doing?" My voice came out shrill and squeaky.

He smiled. "I'm in my bedroom, preparing for bed. The question is, why are you outside of my bedroom at this hour?"

"At this hour?" I asked. "It's barely past dinner, it's a perfectly respectable hour." My eyes drifted downward, exploring Tristan's chest, defined abs, and surprisingly large manhood. My cheeks heated.
Forcing my eyes to return to his face, I tried to remember why I was here. "You are awful. Why would you taunt Cormac about his sister on her birthday?"

"I didn't taunt him," he said. "You were there. He attacked me."

I blew out a breath of frustration. "You're a child."

"As you can clearly see," he gestured to his now slightly erect member, "I am not a child."

"Can't you put on some clothes?" I asked.

"I thought you were here to live out that vision you had. Or is it not time for that yet?"

My jaw dropped open. "That is not going to happen."

Turning on my heels, I spun away from Tristan and walked toward the door.

"Any time you're ready, Cassia," he called after me.

Shaking from embarrassment and anger, I walked back down the steps and back to the sitting room where I found Dane waiting for me. "Where's Ethan?"

"He went to see to the horses since Cormac is disposed."

"Good," I said. I walked over to Dane and tugged on his tunic, forcing him to lower his face. Then, I pressed my lips against his.

Dane wrapped his arms around me sliding them down my hips and under my butt until he picked me up and pulled me closer against his chest.

I wrapped my legs around his waist and pressed my lips harder into his. He walked forward, carrying me while he matched my kiss with hungry pressure. I nipped playfully by his lower lip and he growled, then pinned me against the wall.

He broke the kiss and stared at me. His breaths coming out shallow. "You sure you want to do this?

Because this time, I'm not going to be able to stop. I've wanted you since we first met."

My breath came out quick and shallow and I stared hungrily into his hooded eyes. I could tell the same desire that had turned my blood boiling was rising in him. "I don't want you to stop. I want everything."

Dane pressed his mouth against mine again, finding a rhythm with my lips. As he adjusted his grip on me, he pressed me closer as he pushed me harder against the wall. I could feel the bulge in his trousers pressed against my rear and it sent a thrill through me.

I was hungry, starved for physical attention, and tonight it seemed only Dane could satisfy me. I ran my fingers through his hair and he caught my wrist, pinning it against the wall. He pulled back leaving my lips wanting, while his intense icy blue gaze bore into my very soul. I whimpered, wanting nothing more than to feel the heat of his mouth on mine again.

One corner of his mouth turned up in a smirk and a second later he had me in his arms again, carrying me like a bride toward one of the closed doors in the hallway beyond. He hesitated a second at the door shifting my weight so he could reach the handle.

As soon as we crossed into the room he threw me onto the bed. The room was dark, curtains drawn and no lamps lit. The only light was from the crack underneath the now closed door. I heard the rustle of fabric and I knew Dane was stripping his clothes. I reached for the ties on my tunic and wondered if I should take my clothes off to be ready for him; but before I could make my decision Dane was on top of me.

About Dyan:

My story is probably similar to a lot of other writers out there. As a kid, I was creative, imaginative, and loved to write. I’d write scripts for plays and make my sisters act them out. I got excited about the writing prompts for standardized tests in elementary school. I started writing my first (unfinished) novel in 5th grade. Then started another one in middle school. For a long time, I was a closet writer. I didn’t tell anybody that I had a hard drive full of abandoned stories. After years of not finishing anything, I finally took the plunge and started taking writing, and myself as a writer, seriously. My first novel, Heir of Illaria, published January 23, 2017. Book 2 is right around the corner. It’s gone from closet hobby to full on addiction. Thankfully, I have a wonderfully supportive husband who doesn’t look at me like I’m crazy when I talk about my characters as if they’re real.

Excerpt

Grant the mystery man—a delicious mystery Shayla would like to unravel, piece by piece, layer
by layer. Ah, but I can’t. I’m his boss. In a different lifetime, if we didn’t have the whole
boss-employee obstacle going on…. No harm in looking, though, just a little, since he sat so
close. She promised herself to keep her thoughts G-rated—okay, maybe PG-13. Grant had a
talent with numbers and paid attention to detail. Also, he was a little shy and standoffish to a
lot of people when it came to anything other than work. Shayla wondered where he sometimes
went in his head, because, every now and then, his smile slipped from his face, just for a second,
before being replaced with one a little harder. None of my business, she reminded herself.

She had really wanted to hug him this morning after seeing him so frustrated but decided it
might be wiser and more appropriate to show him there were a few people on his side. Seeing
him break things and try to be all strong and humorous about it made Shayla want to unravel
the Grant mystery even more. It kind of hurt to watch him pretending to be fine, but all she
could offer him was lunch and good conversation. Hopefully, Mr. Strong and Silent—Sydney
called him that sometimes, although never to his face—knew Shayla and Sydney cared. And
Shayla did care. Because he’s a friend. Just a friend.

Grant raised his soda in a toast. “To things not being worse,” he announced with a rueful half
smile. “And, uh”—he cleared his throat—“to good company.” He nodded at Sydney, and when
he met Shayla’s gaze, he held it. In his dark eyes, she saw hunger, wide-open desire, and
about a million other things she couldn’t puzzle out. Grant looked at her that way sometimes,
and she did her best to ignore it. He might have a small crush on her, or he could have a thing
for petite, small-breasted girls possessing a great fashion sense.

Sydney broke the silence. “To good food and even better friends.” She clinked Grant’s glass,
and Shayla came back to reality and smiled, pretending she wasn’t experiencing several
different kinds of inappropriate thoughts and feelings for a sexy, complicated man who was
her employee and also her friend. She needed to behave and remember things could never
go any further than a panty-melting gaze.

About Christina Lynn Lambert

Christina Lynn Lambert

A few years ago, I read my first romance novel and I was hooked, so much so that I decided to
give the idea of writing a story a chance. My style is more gritty than sweet and I look forward to
writing many more stories with strong heroines and imperfect but determined characters. Love,
courage, hope, and second chances are a few of my favorite themes. When I’m not writing, I
enjoy spending time outside and finding ways to avoid cooking. I live in beautiful Virginia with
my husband, two daughters, and a sweet, hairy monster of a dog.
