Review: Ren: The Man Behind the Monster

Ren: The Man Behind the Monster Ren: The Man Behind the Monster by Sarah Noffke
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Synopsis:

Born with the power to control minds, hypnotize others, and read thoughts, Ren Lewis, is certain of one thing: God made a mistake. No one should be born with so much power. A monster awoke in him the same year he received his gifts. At ten years old. A prepubescent boy with the ability to control others might merely abuse his powers, but Ren allowed it to corrupt him. And since he can have and do anything he wants, Ren should be happy. However, his journey teaches him that harboring so much power doesn't bring happiness, it steals it. Once this realization sets in, Ren makes up his mind to do the one thing that can bring his tortured soul some peace. He must kill the monster.

My Thoughts:

Cover/Title: The cover doesn't give the reader much insight into the book unless you have read the Lucidite series. If you have, then you know that Ren is a mystery just waiting to be solved.

Characters: I love the peek into Ren's past. It makes the reader understand why Ren is the way that he is.

Plot: This book revolves around Ren's life and the choices he makes. The great responsibility that comes with his powers weigh down his life.

Overall: An excellent spinoff of the Lucidite series that I loved so much. I can't wait to read more.

Review: The Last Bride in Ballymuir

The Last Bride in Ballymuir The Last Bride in Ballymuir by Dorien Kelly
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Synopsis:

Steeped in the age-old beauty and traditions of Ireland, Dorien Kelly's enchanting contemporary novel transports readers to a picturesque Irish village where passions run deep....
Miss Kylie "Soon-to-Be-a-Saint" O'Shea teaches at the Gaelic school, helps her neighbors and volunteers for every good cause. No one in Ballymuir can figure out why she keeps the interested lads at bay but they all warn her that she's in danger of fulfilling a local legend: becoming the last bride in Ballymuir. When a stranger named Michael Kilbride comes to the village wild rumors surround his every move. But Kylie, captivated by Michael's intense passions, lets herself go where Michael leads her -- into an awakening of dreams and desires...even if it means exposing her beloved village's and her own darkest secrets.

My Thoughts:

Cover/Title: The cover definitely makes me think bride and love. The reader definitely gets the idea that there is romance in this book.

Characters: I liked most of the characters. I felt bad for poor Michael. Gerry Flynn annoyed me.

Plot: The plot revolved around two people whose lives were damaged in different ways. I love how they turn toward each other to heal and move on.

Overall: This is a sweet romance about overcoming your past and moving forward. It was a bit slow but worth the read if you are in the mood for a romance book.

Read Jett and Ruby's story to find out if two wary hearts can find out where they belong in Billionaire
Unloved, the New York Times, Wall Street Journal and USA Today bestselling series from J.S. Scott!

Ruby:

My name is Ruby Kent, and I'm homeless, a virgin, and terrified when I'm kidnapped by human
traffickers and put up for sale on the auction block. I'm for sale to the highest bidder, and I have no
idea what my future will be, but I know it's not going to be good.

I'm waiting for a chance to escape, and that opportunity finally comes after I'm bought and paid for.

Unfortunately, I have no idea that Jett Lawson has been sent to rescue me, not hurt me, and even
after we're both injured during my desperate attempt to run away, he still wants to take care of me.

Problem is, I have no idea how to trust anyone, or let anybody help me. I've always been alone. It's
safer that way.

Jett Lawson is a mystery to me, an enigma that just gets more complicated with every nice thing he
does for me.

Is it possible for a woman like me to find happiness with a billionaire?

Probably not, but the more I get to know Jett, the harder is is to resist the lure of having a safe place
to be, and a man like no other.

Jett is scarred just like me, but his wounds are all on the outside.

Mine are carved all over my soul.

Can two wounded people help each other heal, or will our profound differences tear us apart?

*****
Trigger Warning: This book contains themes of sexual assault and child abuse. Although there are no
first-hand accounts of these topics in the story, they are discussed openly in this novel.

Review: The Swiss Family RobinZOM (Book 1) The Classic Family Adventure... Now With Zombies!

The Swiss Family RobinZOM (Book 1) The Classic Family Adventure... Now With Zombies! The Swiss Family RobinZOM (Book 1) The Classic Family Adventure... Now With Zombies! by Perrin Briar
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Synopsis:

A shipwreck; a deserted island; a horde of zombies; a single family fighting to survive.

This volume contains two thrilling tales:

WRECKED
After a tropical storm, the Flower family discovers a mysterious boat shipwrecked on their shore. An attempt to scavenge the wreckage awakens something dark and extremely dangerous. With the full weight of the undead descending down upon them, can the family prepare a strong enough defence? Or will they become the latest victims of a virus-ridden world?

GENESIS
Trapped aboard a ferry destined for their new life in the Philippines, the Flowers learn of a virus sweeping across the planet, turning people into flesh-crazed zombies. Early symptoms include a hacking cough, shortness of breath, and deathly pale skin. The exact same symptoms as a fellow passenger on board...

FLOWERS VS. ZOMBIES. Let the apocalypse begin.

My Thoughts:

Cover/Title: I don't want to rant but it really annoys me when I go to write a review and spend an hour trying to figure out why my search is coming up with a different title. My book is called Flowers VS. Zombies: Genesis but this one comes up when I search that. When I click on the link to see the book on Amazon, I see the book I read. The title here makes no sense. I understand that the author took inspiration from the original story of the Swiss Family Robinson. However, this book is about a swiss family with the last name Flowers. So naming it "The Swiss Family RobinZOM" is kinda like calling a cat "Dog". Ok, I am done with my rant about the title. The cover that I have on my version is interesting. The cover above is not. I like the zombies with the city looming in the background on my cover.

(my cover)

Characters: I really enjoyed reading about this family. The kids seem fun and even the youngest kid insists on being part of the action.

Plot: The idea of a family shipwrecked during a zombie outbreak is interesting. I love how inventive this family is.

Overall: Aside from my cover rant, the only other thing I didn't like was the layout of the book. It seems like it started from the end and then starts over again from the beginning. Basically part 2 of this book is the beginning and then it continues in book 2. Part 1 of this book seem to be chronologically after book 2. Seems to be very confusing for no reason at all. I liked this book and I will probably give book 2 and possibly book 3 a try. If they continue to skip around like that, I probably won't finish the series.

Otherwise, the book was interesting and I enjoyed the story.
