Review: Rescued by a Highlander

Rescued by a Highlander Rescued by a Highlander by Keira Montclair
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Synopsis:

Madeline MacDonald has been a victim of her stepbrother’s cruelty ever since her parents’ death in a fire two years ago. Forced into a betrothal to a man she hates, her only way out is to escape to a convent.
Laird Alexander Grant is honor bound to rescue Maddie after seeing the bruises on her face. What he doesn’t realize is that once he holds the beaten lass in his arms, his heart will never be the same. He vows revenge for the abuse she was forced to endure and yearns to make the sweet woman with an iron will his, but can he help her fight the demons in her mind left behind by her abusers’ horrid treatment?

**WARNING** Mature content- Contains references to abuse and a previous rape that may be disturbing for some readers.

My Thoughts:

First, the cover. Why? Oh why did you hide that magnificent man like that? LOL I couldn't help myself but I had to point out that the author hid this hunk of manliness. I mean all you see are muscles and a sword. The title is definitely the reason I grabbed this book. I really like highlander romances. There is just something about those highlander men. As for the characters, we have the usual hot highlander men (the Grant clan) and a heroine that is as sweet as she is strong. I love a strong heroine and this book did not disappoint. I love that even her servants loved her enough to help her during the worst of her living nightmare. Now unto the villains of the book. There are villains that just make trouble and there are villains that you love to hate. These ones are of the love to hate variety. Her brother is cruel and ruthless but his friend might be even worse than he is. Poor Maddy had the misfortune to have to deal with both of them. There are some very brutal topics of rape & abuse so this book is definitely not for the faint of heart. However, this book is well written and you find yourself cheering for Maddy & Alex and they try to be happy. Overall, this is a very good read but definitely not for everyone.
