My rating: 3 of 5 stars
Synopsis:
She’s stolen his earnings — along with his heart.
Shifter Trey Dixon can play poker like his wolf can howl, but what he doesn’t know about the shady underworld of Las Vegas gambling might just get him killed. By the end of one crazy night, he’s sucked into trouble — and falling hard for the petite dragon shifter who steals his winnings along with his heart. Before he knows it, it’s not just money at stake — it’s his destined mate’s life.
Kaya Proulx didn’t mean to fall for the mystery man who was supposed to be her ticket out of a tight spot. But that spot only gets tighter when her sizzling-hot lover leads her straight into a den of wolves. She has enough problems with vampires, gargoyles, and her missing sister. Now, the clock is ticking and her life is on the line. Can she trust her inner dragon and bet against the highest odds of all?
* A zany paranormal romance with adult content — not to mention vampires, gamblers, card-dealing werewolves, and much more! *
My Thoughts:
Cover/Title: Shifters, Vegas and gambling... yeah, I was certainly interested as soon as I saw the title. Characters: A wolf shifter and a dragon shifter.. seems like a perfect match, right? I enjoyed reading about these characters but there was a lack of depth to them.
Plot: Trey wakes up in bed with Kaya. He is totally intrigued by this woman he spent the night with. Then all hell breaks lose and she flies away with his winnings from the night before. Yes, she literally flew after shifting into a dragon. Now Trey is really intrigued and uses the items she left behind to draw her out into the open. Too bad, it also drew out the people she owed money to.
Overall: I really enjoyed this book. My issue is that is so rushed. There is no buildup and I think this book could have been so much better as a full blown novel. I will, however, be reading more by this author as I enjoy her writing.
