Review: Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard

Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard
My Rating:5 of 5

Synopsis:

This is a world divided by blood - red or silver. The Reds are commoners, ruled by a Silver elite in possession of god-like superpowers. And to Mare Barrow, a seventeen-year-old Red girl from the poverty-stricken Stilts, it seems like nothing will ever change. That is until she finds herself working in the Silver Palace. Here, surrounded by the people she hates the most, Mare discovers that, despite her red blood, she possesses a deadly power of her own. One that threatens to destroy the balance of power. Fearful of Mare's potential, the Silvers hide her in plain view, declaring her a long-lost Silver princess, now engaged to a Silver prince. Despite knowing that one misstep would mean her death, Mare works silently to help the Red Guard, a militant resistance group, and bring down the Silver regime. But this is a world of betrayal and lies, and Mare has entered a dangerous dance - Reds against Silvers, prince against prince, and Mare against her own heart.

My Thoughts:

This book is about a society in which people with red blood are ruled over by people with silver blood. The people with silver blood have abilities that they lord over the red bloods. The red bloods are tired of being treated poorly and are fighting back.

This is where things get interesting. Mare is a red but she has abilities like a silver and that means she is a danger to the silvers. They decide to keep her close, kind of like that old saying: Keep your friends close and your enemies closer.

Mare has no idea who to trust as there are a lot of lies being told. What is a girl to do when she is torn between two brothers and her own people?

I love this book! When I got to the cliffhanger ending, I wanted to go right out and get the next book. There is no much going on in this book and you find it hard to know who to root for with all the lies and subterfuge going on. I really can't wait to see what happens next. Now I am off to find a copy of book 2 ; )
