Review: Numbers Game

Numbers Game Numbers Game by Rebecca Rode
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Synopsis:

Treena is nervous for Rating Day. A single number will brand her forever—a valuable citizen, or a pathetic waste of space. Her top-Rated boyfriend is confident their scores will coincide so they can attend the academy together. But when the big day arrives, her true number shocks everyone.

To get her life and boyfriend back, she must go undercover and expose a military spy. Doesn’t sound too hard, except that someone wants her dead. And then there’s Vance, the mysterious soldier with a haunted past and beautiful brown eyes. Together, they discover a dark numbers conspiracy, one that shatters the nation’s future. Treena must join up with Vance if she is to survive the dangerous game of numbers—and the terrible war that rages within her heart.

My Thoughts:

This was definitely an interesting start to the series. I love dystopian books and this was no exception. The ending was definitely not expected and I can't wait to read book 2 to see what happens next.

Review: She Went All the Way

She Went All the Way She Went All the Way by Meg Cabot
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Synopsis:

There are a few places screenwriter Lou Calabrese would rather be than crammed into a helicopter with Jack Townsend, star of her claim to fame, Copkiller, and whose ex just ran off with Lou's ex. Talk about uncomfortable. But when, halfway out to the isolated arctic location where Copkiller IV is currently shooting, their pilot turns murderous and their helicopter crashes, Lou realizes her day has just gotten a lot worse.
Now, while family and friends back home fret over her disappearance, Lou is on the run in the arctic wilderness with America's sweetheart Jack Townsend and only the contents of her purse, his pockets, and their mutual knowledge of survival movie trivia to keep them alive. Can these two children of Hollywood put aside their differences and make it back home without killing each other? Or much, much worse, actually start to like one another?

My Thoughts:

I picked up this book for a challenge. I needed a book set is Alaska. This book was a perfect fit. I love how sassy Lou is. Overall, it was a nice easy & enjoyable read.

Review: Deadly Magic

Deadly Magic Deadly Magic by Jenny Brex
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Synopsis:

Avery Diamond is having a devil of a time. First Ox refused to let her live in denial, and now the seedy old demon, Killian, is taunting her from Hell.

Forced into a battle she never wanted to fight, Avery must learn to harness the energy around her to stay alive. Magic is only good if you know how to use it. And with only a teeny, tiny dagger at her side, things are going to get dirty. No big, cool sword for her. She’ll need to get in up-close and personal for the kill.

To save her family she has no choice but to win. If she doesn’t the soul-eaters will take over and there’s no telling what civilization will be like. Grab your copy today for a two-part contemporary fantasy that twists elements of magic realism with a dose of the Devil. You’ll find twists, turns, and yoga pants in this magical more-suburban-than-urban fantasy, but no romance.

My Thoughts:

This was an ok book. I enjoyed the story and it was definitely a story line that I hadn't read before. Will I read book 2? Maybe. I have a lot of books that I just couldn't put down that I want to continue series for before this one.

My Thoughts:

*I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book*

I really enjoyed this final book in the trilogy. I loved that the MCs from the first two books finally got together to finally solve the situation. The book drew my attention in and I just wanted to read it in one sitting (and would have it I hadn't had other things that needed done first).

Review: Making Money

Making Money Making Money by Terry Pratchett
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Synopsis:

It's an offer you can't refuse.

Who would not to wish to be the man in charge of Ankh-Morpork's Royal Mint and the bank next door?

It's a job for life. But, as former con-man Moist von Lipwig is learning, the life is not necessarily for long.

The Chief Cashier is almost certainly a vampire. There's something nameless in the cellar (and the cellar itself is pretty nameless), it turns out that the Royal Mint runs at a loss. A 300 year old wizard is after his girlfriend, he's about to be exposed as a fraud, but the Assassins Guild might get him first. In fact lot of people want him dead

Oh. And every day he has to take the Chairman for walkies.

Everywhere he looks he's making enemies.

What he should be doing is . . . Making Money!

My Thoughts:

I can't honestly tell you why I love this book. The author takes a subject that sounds quite boring and makes it very interesting. I mean that this is literally a fantasy book about banking ...... and I loved it- go figure! Terry Pratchett is a genius when it comes to pulling his audience into the story. This is the 2nd Discworld book that I have read and the 3rd book by this author and I must say that I am definitely a fan. I already have 3 more books by this author checked out and ready to read. Keep 'em coming Mr. Pratchett!!

Review: The Heist

The Heist The Heist by Janet Evanovich
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Synopsis:

From Janet Evanovich, #1 bestselling author of the Stephanie Plum novels, and Lee Goldberg, bestselling author and television writer for Monk, comes the first adventure in an electrifying new series featuring an FBI agent who always gets her man, and a fearless con artist who lives for the chase.

FBI Special Agent Kate O’Hare is known for her fierce dedication and discipline on the job, chasing down the world’s most wanted criminals and putting them behind bars. Her boss thinks she is tenacious and ambitious; her friends think she is tough, stubborn, and maybe even a bit obsessed. And while Kate has made quite a name for herself for the past five years the only name she’s cared about is Nicolas Fox—an international crook she wants in more ways than one.

Audacious, handsome, and dangerously charming, Nicolas Fox is a natural con man, notorious for running elaborate scams on very high-profile people. At first he did it for the money. Now he does it for the thrill. He knows that the FBI has been hot on his trail—particularly Kate O’Hare, who has been watching his every move. For Nick, there’s no greater rush than being pursued by a beautiful woman . . . even one who aims to lock him up. But just when it seems that Nicolas Fox has been captured for good, he pulls off his greatest con of all: He convinces the FBI to offer him a job, working side by side with Special Agent Kate O’Hare.

Problem is, teaming up to stop a corrupt investment banker who’s hiding on a private island in Indonesia is going to test O’Hare’s patience and Fox’s skill. Not to mention the skills of their ragtag team made up of flamboyant actors, wanted wheelmen, and Kate’s dad. High-speed chases, pirates, and Toblerone bars are all in a day’s work . . . if O’Hare and Fox don’t kill each other first.

My Thoughts:

Somehow I missed book 1 so I finally read it. I love this series. Kate & Nick are an awesome pair. I love the chemistry between them. They would make a great couple if they ever truly get together. The cons are truly brilliant. Seriously, I have never read a boring book by this author. I can't wait to keep going with this series.

Review: Murder's a Witch: A Beechwood Harbor Magic Mystery

Murder's a Witch: A Beechwood Harbor Magic Mystery Murder's a Witch: A Beechwood Harbor Magic Mystery by Danielle Garrett
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Synopsis:

Holly Boldt has a secret.

Well, technically, she has lots of them. After a scandal uproots her entire life, she is forced to relocate to a halfway house for displaced paranormals. It’s her last shot for a fresh start. But keeping secrets isn’t easy in a town that goes through gossip faster than tissue paper, even for a powerful witch.

When a grisly murder rocks the small town of Beechwood Harbor, Holly finds herself unwillingly entangled in the investigation. With everyone watching, Holly must solve the case before she’s forced to abandon her new-found home and live life as a witch on the run. But with a paranormal investigator tailing her every move, a civil war brewing between her vampire and shifter roommates, and her ghostly landlord on the edge of a breakdown, she can barely think in complete sentences. How is she supposed to track down a murderer?

Holly has to make it work, or risk losing everything … again.

Murder’s a Witch is a cozy witch mystery with a spunky twist. Come see what’s brewing in Beechwood Harbor in this first installment of The Beechwood Harbor Magic Mysteries Series.

My Thoughts:

I love the premise of this series. The MC is a witch exiled to something similar to a halfway house for supernaturals. Her roommates are a shifter, a vampiress and a gargoyle. The halfway house is run by a ghost. This is such a cute background story for a mystery series. I really enjoyed this sweet little paranormal mystery. I will definitely be adding this series to my TBR list.
